CC 0309 Professionalism in Early Learning & the Role of a Professional Association

What does it mean to be a professional in the field of Early Learning? Our society struggles to see the value of educators of young children. How do we change this?  In this session we will examine what it means to be a professional educator, ways in which to communicate this to others including parents and community members and the role of professional associations in supporting educators.

Max: 40

Presenters: Manna Middleton and Joanne Keilty

Manna’s 20+ year journey in early learning and child care has been a rewarding experience.  To keep from feeling the isolation of living and working in rural Southern Alberta, Manna has made it a priority to connect with professional associations locally, provincially and even nationally. This has given her the opportunity to serve on boards such as the Alberta Resource Centre for Quality Enhancement (ARCQE), Alberta’s Leaders Caucus (ALC) and currently as chair for the Association of Early Childhood Educators of Alberta (AECEA).
Joanne has been a member of the field of Early Childhood Education for 37 years. For the largest portion of her career she was an Instructor at Lethbridge College.  Joanne is a board member with AECEA as well.  Currently Joanne works with ARCQE's, as a Pedagogical Leader and Partner in supporting programs as they begin to implement Flight: Alberta’s Early Learning and Care Framework.
